context

The UW Design graduating seniors put on an annual design show to present and celebrate the final work of the graduating undergraduates and masters students. The show is designed and executed by the seniors during their final quarter. All students participate in different tasks to help create the show.

This year we had 66 designers and 200+ projects to present.

challenge

Creating a fully functioning website within 7 weeks that emulates the story and branding of the design show while communicating all necessary information.

*As the website team, we had to wait for the branding team to finalize their work before getting started.

solution

An interactive event website that showcases the UW Design Show 2025, Odds & Ends, featuring the show itself, designers, capstones, program and archive.

features

Build your own letter

Just like the graduating seniors!

We added this feature to create a fun, interactive experience for the viewers as well as to connect them to the show even through the website.

Archive

Reminiscing on the last four years

The design show is a culmination of our time in the design program. However, our experience was so much more than that. The archive page highlights moments within the beginning our our design careers. Whether the moments felt insignificant or grand, we recognize these moments as a celebration of our exploration and uncertainty which is Odds & Ends.

The Gallery

The featured designers and projects

These pages randomly scramble the designers and projects. For some fun micro-interactivity, we added a hover state to the designer photos that add the shapes that represent their concentration (Industrial Design, Interaction Design and Visual Communication Design).

Designer Page

Get to know the designer

Get a glimpse about the designer and how to connect with them. We added their capstone project(s) and other selected work created during the program. To tie in some extra fun, we made the photo cards flippable to view a playful photo of the designer to help portray their persona.

Project Page

A simplified summary

A short and sweet overview of the project showcasing photos and a brief summary.

conclusion

What I Learned

My biggest takeaways from this project were clear communication and file structure. Being the data collector, I quickly realized that we needed clarity within our intake and storage of the data as well as our instructions and explanation to our cohort. If any problems arose, it was necessary to quickly identify the issue and create clearer instructions (with resources/tutorials if needed). This was important because we needed to collect lots of information during a short amount of time, all during the rest of the chaos of finishing our capstones, other projects, and graduation.

Outcome

I'm extremely proud and pleased with how this project turned out. In such a short amount of time, along the immense pressure of creating something that felt representative of the show.

Thank you c/o 2025 <3

It was a tough final quarter for the entire cohort but we pulled through! It was so rewarding seeing what everyone created and how talented my peers are. Although there were many ups and downs, this was genuinely my favorite quarter.
